Research group
Integrative Physiology at the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery at Karolinska Institutet is seeking two highly motivated research assistants to join the group of Professors Juleen Zierath and Anna Krook to identify and determine the physiological role of new targets altered in Type 2 diabetes. The candidates will join our research group and work on projects focused on the identification and biological validation of key regulatory metabolic pathways and molecules that contribute to the development of insulin resistance in Type 2 diabetes. We now look for two Research Assistants who will be actively involved in research projects addressing skeletal muscle insulin sensitivity.

Work tasks
The projects will focus on identification of molecular changes in skeletal muscle contributing to altered metabolism in subjects with Type 2 diabetes. Projects will examine effects of exercise as well as diet interventions, with the aim to identify key molecular events regulating metabolic adaptation/maladaptation. The effect of candidate molecules will be further studied in cell culture and model organisms.

Qualifications
Research assistant no 1: We seek an enthusiastic and talented person with suitable molecular biology and/or human physiology education with interest and experience in metabolic disease and molecular biology. Understanding of miRNA biology is a merit. A  background in physiology and metabolism, in particular human metabolism, is required, Experience of work involving exercise interventions in people is an advantage, as is previous experience of molecular biology and cell culture techniques. Determination of skeletal muscle exercise adaptations and associated metabolism is also desirable. Some knowledge of spoken Swedish would be advantageous for contact with research subjects.
Research assistant no 2: We seek an enthusiastic and talented person with suitable molecular biology and cell biology education with interest in metabolic disease and molecular biology. A background  in physiology and metabolism is required, experience of work involving primary cell culture is an advantage, as is previous experience of molecular biology and metabolic assays.

For both positions, important personal qualifications are curiosity, engagement and social competence. Documented experience of coordinating projects is qualifying, as well as scientific publications and other working experience in research. Excellent knowledge in written and spoken English is a prerequisite.

Application
The application is to include:
-A personal letter that explains why you are interested and would be suitable for the   position. Clearly state which position you are applying for in the letter.
-Curriculum Vitae
-Description of previous research activities
-List of publication
