Karolinska Institutet, MTC

Division
Our research group, headed by Prof. Sir David Lane, is focusing on the development of new therapies, new discoveries in the p53 pathway and cancer biology. At the department of microbiology, Tumor and Cell biology there is a bigger constellation of researchers within cellular immunology, which is well renowned and leading within basic cancer and immunology research. The candidate will be supervised by Professor Daivd Lane. The research activities of the lab are based at the newly established bioscience hub SciLifeLab, where we also are neighbors with the national super resolution facility Advanced Light Microscopy. For more information about the research see www.mtc.ki.se.

Duties
The successful candidate is expected to develop mechanisms that help understand biochemical, biophysical and biological observations as an integral part of interdisciplinary team and will also be expected to propose new experiments to validate hypotheses, design molecules that will be used as probes and perhaps developed into therapeutics. The candidate will collaborate with other members of the group and bring new ideas, and take a leading role in compiling manuscripts.

Entry requirements
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated candidate with a PhD in molecular modelling or related fields.

Mandatory requirements
Extensive experience in carrying out modelling and molecular dynamics simulations of biomolecules and analysis of associated data using high performance computing with: Special expertise in macrocyclic peptide designing and parameterization.

Understanding and experience of the principles and approaches for structure-based drug discovery.

Experience on having worked on projects on protein-protein interactions, post-translational modifications with experimental groups.

Experience in working with experimental groups and having generated hypotheses that were successfully validated experimentally is necessary.

Well versed  and experience of working with  molecular simulation packages such as AMBER and visualization software such as Pymol/VMD/Chimera.

Experience with virtual screening, pharmacopore modelling and molecular docking using  programs such as LIGANDSCOUT and GOLD.

Programming skills: Perl, shell scripting and usage of R statistical package.

Experience in having worked with industry will be a significant advantage.

Experience of working with anti-cancer compounds, p53 modulators.

Desirable: Along with taking a leading role in research projects, the candidate will also be responsible for compiling manuscripts and previous experience in this regard is highly desirable. Since the applicant will work in a multidisciplinary environment the ability to work with other scientists and good communication skills are important.
