Institutionen för medicin, Solna, Avdelningen för klinisk epidemiologi

We are looking for a skilled epidemiologist and project manager who wants to be a part of a dynamic research environment at the intersection of academia, health care, and the private sector.

The Clinical Epidemiology Division (KEP) is one of the largest divisions at the Department of Medicine Solna, with around 100 employees and a number of affiliated researchers. KEP is in turn organized into six research groups.

The research group in chronic inflammatory disease epidemiology contains some 20 people (doctoral students, postdocs, statisticians, senior researchers, two professors) with different backgrounds but with common research interests, namely the study of inflammatory diseases using Swedish national registers and linkage to clinical and other data sources. See our homepage for more information about who we are and what we do ( Our research is supported by several different funding sources, both public and private. The current position will be part of the Anti-Rheumatic Therapies In Sweden (ARTIS) safety monitoring program of current treatments in Rheumatology.

We are looking for a postdoc-level researcher (or similar) to work as a project manager, coordinating and contributing to several pharmacoepidemiological studies in Rheumatology. The position would encompass all stages of these projects, from contracting with external parties, writing analysis plans, performing epidemiological analyses, and communicating and writing up scientific reports. In addition to working on these tasks, which will fund the position, we expect the person to be an active part of our academic research group. There will be opportunities for teaching, supervising postgraduate students, and collaborating in other research projects.
Depending on the applicant’s experience and interests, there will be many opportunities for the applicant to engage in scientific projects connected to the other tasks, and/or to combine this work with an independent line of research in pharmacoepidemiology.

Entry requirements
The successful applicant should have an MSc or higher degree in epidemiology or biostatistics, with experience from planning and executing epidemiological research projects. The applicant should have sufficient knowledge in statistical programming to work independently with data management and statistical analysis using SAS, R or equivalent software. Experience of working with large databases, such as the Nordic national health or quality of care registers, is a requirement.
The position will require interactions with researchers, rheumatologists, and representatives from pharmaceutical industry; experience from these domains are considered a merit. Excellent grasp of spoken and written scientific English is essential, and strong presentation skills are preferable. Swedish skills are meriting, but not essential.  In the assessment of the candidates, we place particular emphasis on interpersonal skills. The perfect candidate would combine an outgoing personality with a structured and detail-oriented mind.
For applicants wishing to combine this position with an independent line of research, a strong track record of the ability to initiate, conduct, and publish successful research projects as lead author in peer-reviewed journals is another requirement.

Application process
The application is to be submitted in Varbi recruitment system.

At Karolinska Institutet a 6-month trial period is required for all permanent appointments.
