Department of Medicine, Solna, Infectious Diseases division

The Department of Medicine, Solna, is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet. The department consists of several divisions that are separated into different research groups. The core activities of the department are research, doctoral education and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students. The research has three main profiles: allergy, cardiovascular medicine and inflammatory diseases.

Division
Senior researcher position in immunology is available for a highly motivated individual within the research laboratory of Prof. Adnane Achour at the Science for Life Laboratory, Department of Medicine Solna, Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.

Duties
The successful candidate should have already conducted excellent academic research in the field of oncology and immunology, as clearly reflected by high impact factor publications in international peer-reviewed journals. Experience in teaching as well as supervision of PhD students and post-docs is primordial, as reflected by publications as last author. International mobility with proven post-doctoral experience (more than 6 years), different from where the candidate acquired her/his highest academic degree.

Ability to work independently, collaborate and work in a highly dynamic international team is essential. Since the current position involves also animal work, European certificate in laboratory animal science for project directors (FELASSA C) or equivalent is required at the time of application. The candidate should have ample experience in writing animal ethical permit in Swedish. The candidate should have extensive experience in multilineage flow cytometry (FACS), transplantation models, disease mouse models, gene expression analysis down to single cell level and other relevant state of the art technologies. Profound experience of multiple functional immunological assays, including cytotoxicity assays towards large panels of cancer cell lines is important. Candidate should have enough experience in proteins/antibodies generation, purification and conjugation protocols for in vitro and in vivo use. The candidate should preferably have access to already existing immunology and clinical networks and contacts within hospitals, providing relevant clinical and pre-clinical materials important for the project and the group. The candidate should have proven and well-established experience in teaching at university/universities. The candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

The intended projects are based on collaborations between the research group of Prof. Achour and several other research groups, both in Stockholm and abroad, and thus require team-working, but also project-leading capabilities. Apart from the main project, the senior researcher is also expected to contribute with her/his expertise and knowledge in additional projects that are led by other scientific collaborators in collaboration with the research group of Prof. Achour.

Entry requirements
The applicant should be a responsible, creative person and leader that has demonstrated her/his project-leading capabilities by first-author as well as last author publications. Several publications in the field of development of immune system, and interactions of immune cells with cancer cells, would be a strong advantage. Personal suitability is therefore of great importance.

A person is eligible to be appointed Senior Researcher if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence, as well as documented research after publicly defending his or her doctoral thesis corresponding to qualification as Assistant professor.
