Department of Medicine, Solna, Cardiology division

The Department of Medicine, Solna, is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet. The department consists of several divisions that are separated into different research groups. The core activities of the department are research, doctoral education and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students. The research has three main profiles: allergy, cardiovascular medicine and inflammatory diseases.

Division
The Division of Cardiology conducts registry based, clinical, and basic research in several cardiovascular diseases (e.g. heart failure, diabetes, vascular disease). The Candidate will work in the research group of Prof. Lars H Lund, who leads a multidisciplinary research team addressing multiple aspects of heart failure.

Duties
Analyze data using advanced statistical and biostatistical methods, with a focus but not limited to quality registers:

  • Advanced statistical analyses (e.g. multiple imputation, propensity score matching, clustering, advanced modelling, etc)
  • Advanced data management (i.e. linkage of the Swedish Heart Failure registry with several national registries, such as the National Patient Registry, Statistics Sweden, Cause of death registry, other national quality registries, in order to define prevalent/incident comorbidities, and causes of death and hospitalization)
  • Determine the most appropriate methodology and study design for research projects
  • Prepare detailed statistical plans
  • Contribute to writing methods and results for peer-reviewed publications
  • Problem solving support for other investigators regarding statistical/methodological issues.

Entry requirements

  • Master’s Degree in an area relevant to data analysis
  • Minimum 5 years experience
  • Extensive experience on statistical analyses and data management in Swedish quality registers and the National Patient Registry
  • Extensive experience with the statistical software R and SAS, and preferably also STATA and SPSS, and able and willing to learn new computer software and computational procedures
  • Advanced communication skills in English and Swedish
  • Experience in research publication within the area of our research group expertise (i.e. heart failure, registry-based studies, epidemiology), supported by publications on high-impacted journals)
