Research area
The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics is committed to strengthening its research activities by recruiting a permanent Senior Researcher with an excellent scientific track record and at least three years of experience as independent research group leader in the field of genome architecture. We are particularly interested in applicants with a background in quantitative biology, who have a strong focus on genome biology and demonstrated expertise in fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) technologies
Duties
The position entails conducting scientific research of the highest quality in the field of genome organization, with particular emphasis on understanding the design principles that govern how mammalian genomes are spatially organized in the cell nucleus, and how 3D genome structure shapes and/or is shaped by genome function. The successful candidate is expected to lead an independent research group that is competitive in the international arena, to contribute to the Department’s scientific and teaching activities, and to have secured funding for all her/his research activities and group for at least four years from the date of obtaining the position.
Entry requirements
A person is eligible to be appointed Senior Researcher if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence, as well as documented research after publicly defending his or her doctoral thesis corresponding to qualification as Assistant professor.
The successful candidate should have an ambitious scientific vision and a research plan clearly focused on understanding the interplay between genome structure and function. In addition, the successful candidate should have a demonstrated experience as independent research group leader as judged by number and amount of grants obtained in open competition, invitations as speaker to local and international conferences, and number of M.Sc./Ph.D. students and postdocs supervised.
Bases of assessment
We stress research expertise when assessing applicants.We will give priority to candidates that have a proven expertise in FISH techniques and aim to establish a FISH facility at our Department.
