Karolinska Institutet

The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) is a department with a strong focus on basic science. CMB conducts research and education in cell biology, molecular biology, developmental biology, stem cell biology, cancer and infection biology.

Division
The position is placed in the research group of Jonas Frisén at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Karolinska Institutet. We study cell generation during development and in the adult body, with special interests in the central nervous system, heart, immune system and prostate. We are interested in the extent, lineage relationships and functional role of cell generation in physiological and pathological situations in mice and humans.

Duties
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist to study immune cell generation dynamics in adult humans. The approach uses single cell RNA-seq and whole genome sequencing, cell phenotyping and computational reconstruction of clonal relationships. This will yield insights into the cell lineage development of immune cells in adult humans.

Entry requirements
A person is eligible to be appointed Senior Researcher if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence, as well as documented research after publicly defending his or her doctoral thesis corresponding to qualification as Assistant professor.

We expect you to be a very creative person, with a PhD degree and extensive postdoctoral experience, with excellent communication skills and abilities to collaborate and work in a highly dynamic international research team. Candidates should possess a strong background in cellular immunology with preference for prior work in the field of hematopoietic stem cell research and a strong publication record in these fields. The position will require the candidate to develop new methods for genetic lineage tracing in humans at the single cell level, thus qualified candidates should have experience with next generation sequencing technologies, single cell analysis, working with human primary and cultured hematopoietic cells and a strong publication record in these areas. Prior experience of whole genome sequencing of human hematopoietic cells is a requirement. Candidates with evidence of a basic background in bioinformatics and prior publications in systems biology and/or computational biology are preferred. Qualified candidates should have prior experience with mentoring graduate students and teaching experience.

Bases of assessment
We stress research expertise when assessing applicants.

Application process
An application must contain the following documents in English: A personal letter and a curriculum vitae, degree diplomas, qualifications and description of planned research, presented in accordance with Karolinska Institutet’s qualifications portfolio (http://ki.se/qualificationsportfolio).

The application is to be submitted through the Varbi recruitment system.

At Karolinska Institutet a 6-month trial period is required for all permanent appointments.
