Karolinska Institutet

The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) is a department with a strong focus on basic science. CMB conducts research and education in cell biology, molecular biology, developmental biology, stem cell biology, cancer and infection biology.

Division
The Eukaryotic Single Cell Genomics Facility located at the Science for Life Laboratory in
Stockholm is looking for a highly qualified research engineer. Based in Stockholm, the focus of ESCG is on high throughput streamlined transcriptome and genome analysis of large numbers of individual eukaryotic cells. We are looking for a highly qualified research engineer that will work with the computational analyses of the data generated in the single-cell genomics facility.

Area of responsibilities/description of work
At the facility, RNA or DNA sequence libraries are constructed from single-cell suspensions using state- of-the-art technology. You will handle the computational pipelines of different kinds of genomics assays on single cells and will prepare data to be delivered to the customers.

Your responsibilities will to run, maintain and improve various pipelines for e.g. single-cell RNA-sequencing both at the UMI level and for full-length transcriptome assays. Data is currently originating from the following experimental methods: Smart-seq2 protocol, Chromium system from 10X Genomics and custom protocol established on the ICELL8 Wafergen Biosystems, scRNA-seq and scATAC-seq from WaferGen platforms, and potentially data from combinatorial indexing methods.

Other tasks include ordering, inventory, risk assessments and other administrative tasks.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate has a university degree in molecular biology, biomedical science, biotechnology or similar discipline. A PhD degree in a relevant field may be advantageous. Previous work experience with RNA and primary cells is required. Experience with analyses of high-throughput RNA and/or DNA is desirable, e.g. single-cell analyses is an advantage.

You should be service minded, enjoy learning new methods, be thorough and diligent in your work, and be proficient with documenting. The position requires being able to work independently as well as in collaboration with others. You will work in an international team with frequent interactions with customers, therefore excellent communication skills, general computing proficiency, and a good knowledge of English are essential. Strong interpersonal skills will be highly valued.

Application process
The application is to be submitted on the MyNetwork recruitment system. At Karolinska Institutet a 6-month trial period is required for all permanent appointments.
