The Department of Clinical Neuroscience (CNS) conducts research and education in the field of neuroscience from the molecular level to the society level. Division
The successful candidate will be working in Stefan Skare´s research group (https://ki.se/en/cns/stefan-skares-research-group). The group is closely linked to the Department of Neuroradiology at Karolinska University Hospital, and consists of six MR physicists. The research group develops advanced image acquisition and reconstruction methods for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). The research group works on a variety of software applications for Neuro MR, most of which are used for clinical practice at the hospital. One of the focus areas include prospective motion correction of the patient's head during MR acquisition, aiming for diagnostic MR image of high quality even though the patient cannot remain still during the data acquisition. The end goals include reduced use of anesthesia for pediatric patients, fewer re-takes and better images that increase confidence the diagnosis. Prospective motion correction for MRI can be done with both "MR navigators" and external hardware devices, and to date Skare's research group has been working on the former. To open up for more motion robust MRI acquisition techniques, the group would like to add competence for external hardware motion tracking systems that can be combined with their pulse sequence portfolio.

Duties
This position is a fixed-term employment of 12 months, with the possibility for extension. The successful candidate should develop a hardware device suitable for motion tracking of the patient's head in real time during MR acquisition. This will involve hardware development, but also software integration with the pulse sequences that the group use and develop. The research and development should also lead to technical scientific papers related to the work on motion correction for MRI.

Entry requirements
The application should have a civil engineering background or similar, with good knowledge about electronics and MR physics. The applicant must have a PhD degree in a field closely related to MRI, preferably within the theme of motion correction. Sufficient knowledge in C/python/Matlab programming, MR image reconstruction, linux is required. The applicant needs to be able to collaborate well, not only with the MR physics research group, but also with the MR staff and radiologist at the department.
