Karolinska Institutet

Department
At the Department of Public Health Sciences we conduct research, teaching and applied work based on public health science and epidemiology. The research is aimed at analysing health determinants on the population level, and developing and evaluating preventative structural and individualised measures, including legislation and guidelines. The field also includes health economics, health systems research and implementation research. Our activities have a strongly international flavour, and the Department's researchers are scientific advisers to authorities and other decision-makers on the regional, national and international level. The Department is divided into research groups operating within the fields of global health, public health epidemiology and social medicine with a total of 140 employees. In addition, we have around 80 research students.

This position is located in the Epidemiology of Psychiatric Conditions, Substance use and Social environment (EPiCSS) research group. The group consists of approx. 20 researchers. Our ultimate aim is to develop early intervention and prevention of mental ill health, including substance use, by understanding risk/protective factors in the context of the social environment. Apart from examining the overall population we examine specific groups at risk such as children of parents suffering from mental disorders, sexual minorities, and refugees.

Duties
We are now looking for an advanced assistant who will work at the local site in our research group and both support the research group leader with several duties but also the whole group of researchers including PhD students. The tasks vary from everyday administrative duties to advanced research-related tasks, such as commenting on the coherence on grant applications that we produce. Other examples of duties are calls and organisation of meetings, seminars and other events; prepare presentations in cooperation with researchers; take care of invoices in the economic system Agresso and legal agreements with other universities; assist researchers in writing and editing content for the group website and cooperate with departmental administration to publish the content;  grant writing support i.e. prepare the budgets, help with CVs, prepare figures, correct the English language (if possible), and review the coherence of the content.

Qualifications
We are looking for someone who understands and is interested of what we are doing. Someone who is familiar with the academy and has excellent skills in English.

We are not sure that a person who can handle this wide range of duties exists but if you feel like this could be something for you, that you would love to work in research environment with stressed researchers and help them find solutions, please apply.

The application is to be submitted through the Varbi recruitment system.

At Karolinska Institutet a 6-month trial period is required for all permanent appointments.
