The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 540 employees and a revenue 2023 of 530 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

National E-infrastructure for Aging Research (NEAR)
Karolinska Institutet and five other Swedish universities are building a National E-infrastructure for Aging Research (NEAR) with the ultimate goal of facilitating aging research in Sweden, fostering international collaboration, and enhancing the quality and impact of scientific research. NEAR consists of 15 databases derived from longitudinal cohort studies located in different geographical areas in Sweden. The databases participating in NEAR include more than 180,000 people over age 50. Participants are assessed by direct interview and/or clinical examination (to date, this cohort has been followed for a minimum of 7 years to a maximum of 40 years). Data are linked with registers from Statistics Sweden (SCB) and the Swedish Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen).

Division
The position of data scientist is announced by the Aging Research Center (ARC), where NEAR is located. ARC is a center for interdisciplinary scientific research on health in aging that is grounded in collaboration between Karolinska Institutet and Stockholm University. The research group includes senior researchers, postdocs, doctoral students, and guest researchers, and it provides a vibrant and stimulating working atmosphere. The available position is for one year, possibly longer.

Duties
This position implies a central role in the development of the e-infrastructure. Advanced statistical skills will be necessary for the harmonization of the data and for data analysis. This position requires close interaction with researchers, data providers, and local database administrators to get information in and out of the system for continued processing, analysis, and interpretation by statistical experts and researchers. Your daily work will be a mix of system development, maintenance of existing systems, system communication, data handling and manipulation (edit/transform, load, extract), and statistical strategy for harmonization.
The data scientist will be a member of the research group and will have the opportunity to carry out his/her own research

We are looking for you who have the required background and the capability to work in a cross-disciplinary team, to be independent and able to take initiatives as well as to find solutions. The applicant must also possess good organizational skills, attention to detail, and communication abilities.
