The Department of Medicine, Solna, is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet. The department consists of several divisions that are separated into different research groups. The core activities of the department are research, doctoral education and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students. The research has three main profiles: allergy, cardiovascular medicine and inflammatory diseases.
We are seeking a computational biologist at post-doctoral level (or with at least 4 years of post-graduate experience) to work with the team of Dr. Eduardo J. Villablanca and Dr. Nicola Gagliani at the Department of Medicine (MedS) at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden.
Division
The Immunology and Allergy Unit at the Department of Medicine, Solna performs research on different aspect of allergy and autoimmune diseases. Our research group (PI: Eduardo Villablanca) will investigates the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the establishment of intestinal homeostasis and how breakdown of these mechanisms might lead to inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Our group works in an inspiring and interactive research environment at the Karolinska University, Solna and has ongoing collaborative projects with national and international colleagues. To tackle these questions, Eduardo’s and Gagliani’s teams are using Single Cell RNA-Sequencing among other array and sequencing based approaches to analyze immune responses in vivo.
Duties
We are seeking a Computational Biologist at post-doctoral level for a 24-48 months project. The main duties include bioinformatics analysis with particular focus in RNA-seq and single cell RNA-seq analysis. An interest in data visualization and big data analysis is a plus. The applicant is expected to have a strong interest in mucosal immunology. The applicant will work in close collaboration with other PhD students, postdocs and researchers. The applicant is expected to actively participate in other lab projects and present results to general and specialized audiences. An interest in the application of machine learning approaches is also desirable.
The duties also include:
Data QC, data management and archival storage Analysis of large datasets, preparation of codes, development of new methods/tools for advanced analysis of datasets Support the ongoing research in the group, help write papers, grants and scientific meeting presentations Shape, develop and maintain the current computing resources of the group.
Entry requirements
