The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 540 employees and a revenue 2023 of 530 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

Division

Division of Neurogeriatrics belongs to the internationally leading Center for Alzheimer Research. The lab manager will be working in the research group led by prof Angel Cedazo-Minguez, which is located in NOVUM, beside the Karolinska University Hospital at Huddinge. The group will move to Solna in September. Angel Cedazo-Minguez group currently consists of 8 people, students, postdocs and assistant professors with different backgrounds, educationally as well as culturally.

The lab manager will work for 1 year in projects related to risk factors in Alzheimer’s disease, with a strong focus on studies in mouse models.

Duties

A major task for the candidate will be to contribute to the research of the group and to lab duties such as preparing common reagents, standardizing lab protocols and lab safety.

The Lab Manager should be capable of working independently and be proactive in the implementation of procedural improvements to ensure that the lab runs safely and efficiently.

The lab manager is also request to take part to behavioral studies on different mouse models and to perform molecular studies.

The successful candidate should show a high level of responsibility and be able to work in a team. Moreover, the candidate is expected to have good knowledge and expertise in Alzheimer’s disease and neurodegeneration.

Entry requirements

A person is eligible if he or she has been awarded a Master Degree. We seek for a person with minimum of 2 years of advanced experience in a biomedical lab and with a background in the field of neurodegeneration and Alzheimer’s Disease.

The projects of the group involve a wide range of molecular and cellular techniques with a strong translational focus. Good expertise in molecular biology and techniques such as western blot, ELISA, PCR, isolation and culture of hippocampal neurons from rat embryos is required. Imporantly, experience in behavioral studies in mice (in particular spatial and non spatial memory tests) is  required. Having obtained a FELASA B certificate or equivalent would be considered an advantage.

Very good knowledge of English written and spoken is a requirement.
