The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 540 employees and a revenue 2023 of 530 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.
Division
The research at the division of Neurogeriatrics is focused on neurodegenerative diseases, in particular Alzheimers disease and is strongly oriented towards translating findings from basic research into clinical practice.
A postdoctoral researcher to be hired will be working in the research group led by Angel Cedazo-Minguez, which is located in NOVUM, campus Flemingsberg. Angel CedazoMinguez group currently consists of 8 researchers between postdocs, Ph.D. candidates and master students with diverse scientific and cultural backgrounds. We now want to expand the group with a 1 year postdoc position with possibility of extension.
The postdoctoral researcher will work in different projects related to neurodegeneration, mainly in Alzheimer’s disease, with a strong focus on molecular signaling and receptor biology.
Duties
A major task for the applicant will be to contribute to the ongoing research activities at the Division of Neurogeriatrics, conceptually as well as methodologically. In particular, the candidate will lead biochemical and molecular characterization of different transgenic models of cholesterol metabolism related to Alzheimer’s disease. The successful candidate will perform molecular analysis on signaling cascades controlling neuronal and astrocytic differentiation using mRNA analysis, western blot and conceal microscopy coupled with advanced culture techniques.
The successful candidate should show a high level of responsibility and independency and be able to work in a team and be willing to supervise students. Moreover, the candidate is expected to have broad knowledge and expertise in receptor research and postnatal differentiation of neurons. Data analysis and interpretation as well as manuscript and grant preparation skills are a requirement.
Entry requirements
A person is eligible for a position as postdoctoral research fellow if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc.
We seek a scientist with a minimum of three years postdoc experience and a long-standing background in the field of molecular biology as well as Alzheimer’s disease research. The successful candidate has a strong background in cell culture, neuronal differentiation and 3D software reconstruction analysis. Deep knowledge of Imaris software is required. Documented experience of mRNA analysis in single cells, immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry and confocal imaging are required. This project involves a wide range of molecular and cellular techniques and has a strong translational focus. Strong expertise in molecular biology is required. Additionally, documented knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease molecular targets, cell culture and signaling cascades research are commendable.
Excellent collaborative, communication and writing skills are needed. Very good English skills in speaking and writing are a requirement for the position.
