Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Do you want to contribute to top-tier medical research? At the Department of Oncology-Pathology, our group focuses on the critical role of mechanical forces in the development of cancer and vascular diseases. Our multidisciplinary team includes pathologists, clinicians, and molecular scientists, working together in an international environment dedicated to improving human health.

Our research focuses on Amotl2 (Angiomotin-like protein 2), a crucial regulator of cell behavior that plays an essential role in cancer biology. Amotl2 influences cell polarity, migration, and cell junction integrity, all of which are key processes involved in tumor development and metastasis. As part of the motin family, Amotl2 contributes to cellular architecture and tissue organization, acting as a scaffold protein that facilitates interactions between molecules essential for maintaining cell shape and intercellular communication.

Studies suggest that p60Amotl2, a truncated isoform of Amotl2, can modulate oncogenic pathways and affect cellular responses that promote tumor cell migration and invasion—critical steps in metastasis. Additionally, p60Amotl2’s role in maintaining cell junctions and polarity is essential, as its dysregulation can lead to the loss of these features, a characteristic often observed in cancer cells as they transition to a more invasive and metastatic state. Consequently, p60Amotl2 is emerging as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for understanding and inhibiting cancer progression.

Your mission

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will engage in advanced research on Amotl2, with a specific emphasis on its role in cancer biology and its potential as a therapeutic target.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and conducting experiments to investigate the signaling pathways involving Amotl2 and its impact on cancer cell behavior, including proliferation, migration, and metastasis.
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of experts to deepen understanding of Amotl2’s role in tumor development and progression.
  • Analyzing experimental data, preparing manuscripts, and presenting your findings at scientific conferences.
  • Contributing to the development of targeted therapeutic strategies based on Amotl2 regulation and participating in grant writing to support ongoing cancer research initiatives.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a phd or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish phd is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

Qualifications:

  • It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has demonstrated a strong track record of research in cell biology, with specific expertise in the study of proteins like Amotl2 involved in cell signaling and migration.
  • Proven experience in mouse models, multidisciplinary collaboration, a solid publication record in high-impact journals, and contributions to advancing knowledge of vascular development as well as vascular diseases such as aneurysms are highly valued.
  • Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities

Merits:

  • Highly valued qualifications include proven experience with 3-D cell cultures, a history of multidisciplinary collaboration
  • A robust publication record in the field, and significant contributions to drug screening and advancing cellular biology knowledge.
