We are looking for a highly motivated post-doc with a keen eye for molecular mechanisms in biology to help us investigate how spatial molecular interactions can be captured and analyzed using DNA microscopy. Our team is a leading group in the field of DNA nanotechnology and molecular imaging tools for life-science research. As a research lab, we strive to unravel how spatial relations between molecules at the nanoscale level affect biological systems. We have recently developed advanced methods in DNA microscopy, a PCR and sequencing-based technology that reconstructs spatial information about molecular networks without traditional microscopy. This opens new avenues to explore complex biological environments, such as tissue organization and cellular heterogeneity, that were previously difficult to study. These are challenging, hard-to-reach problems, where many existing techniques fall short.
The Högberg lab (www.hogberglab.net) is part of the division for Molecular Systems Biotechnology at the department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics at the Karolinska Institutet (KI). The lab is currently a diverse team of physicists, biologists, chemists and computational biologists. We offer a stimulating scientific environment and a top research infrastructure both locally, at the department level and institution level. KI is among the world’s top medical universities and KI’s faculty awards the Nobel Prize in physiology and medicine.
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
If you fulfil at least a couple of the following criteria you are encouraged to apply. In order of decreasing importance, you should:
Exciting research projects of direct relevance for biological and medical research in a lab positioned at the cutting edge of life-science technologies development.
Our research is curiosity driven and the lab will provide ample opportunity for creative persons to strongly influence the direction of his/her project. Because of this we are primarily interested in individuals that are highly motivated and that aim to become independent researchers.
At Karolinska Institutet, we conduct successful medical research and hold the largest range of medical education in Sweden. At KI, you get to meet researchers working with a wide range of specialisms and methods, giving you ample opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience with the various scientific fields within medicine and health. It is the crossover collaborations, which have pushed KI to where it is today, at the forefront of global research. Several of the people you meet in healthcare are educated at KI. A close relationship with the health care providers is important for creating groundbreaking top quality education and research. Karolinska Institutet is also a state university, which entitles you to several benefits through our collective agreement.
