Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We are looking for an ambitious postdoctoral researcher with a background in molecular biology and/or clinical cancer/leukemia research, to apply cutting edge epigenomic profiling techniques on liquid biopsy material. Plasma epigenomics is an exciting frontier in precision medicine, offering new means of diagnosing and monitoring human diseases by analyzing cell-free DNA and chromatin fragments circulating in the bloodstream. We offer an engaging and international research environment where you will contribute to high-quality research on an internationally competitive level.

The position is for a full-time employment, for two years. Part-time employment, e.g. in combination with clinical work, is a possibility.

The research groups

The recruited postdoc will be co-affiliated with the Elsässer Group at Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, SciLifeLab Solna and Lehmann Group at Department of Medicine, Huddinge. Together, we offer a bench-to-bedside training environment where you will contribute to high-quality translational research on an internationally competitive level.

The Elsässer group is an international and multicultural research group that focuses on applying new synthetic and chemical biology methods to understand chromatin structure and function. We are a dynamic, collaborative, and supportive team and the group includes senior and junior researchers, bioinformaticians, administrators, PhD students and undergraduate trainees.

This call is part of the KI-SciLifeLab Clinical Translational Postdoc Program with the purpose of promoting interaction between the SciLifeLab research environment and clinical research environments at Karolinska Institutet. The postdocs that are recruited to the program will form a network with the support of the SciLifeLab Committee KI.

Your mission

Within a world-class research environment with close ties to SciLifeLab infrastructure and biotech industry, the recruited postdoc established a new clinical epigenetics research program working closely with clinicians and biobanks on the one hand, and technology developers on the other hand. The postdoc will plan and set up sample collection and processing workflows, optimize assay conditions and evaluate quality metrics to set up a robust data generation pipeline. The postdoc will perform - or collaborate with computational specialist in performing - data driven analysis of cancer patients and healthy control epigenome signatures. For example, we will monitor cellular and cell-free epigenetic signatures in Acute Myeloid Leukemia patients undergoing different treatment regimes.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

Qualifications

The applicant must have an MD/PhD or PhD degree in a relevant basic research or clinical subject. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in molecular biology techniques, next-generation sequencing experiments and cancer biology or clinical cancer research. We are looking for a strong team player with a strong drive to learn a diverse translational skillset, excellent organizational skills and proficiecy in written and spoken English

Following additional qualifications are a strong merit:

- experience in working with human material, clinical genetic or epigenetic analysis

- experience with regulatory aspects and research ethics in clinical research

- experience in (epi)genomics data analysis
