The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics (MBB) has the ambition to perform research at the highest international level as well as excellent graduate and undergraduate education within all fields of fundamental biomedical science. As one of the largest departments at the Karolinska Institutet we strive to have a strong scientific culture and a strong research connection in education. As part of this effort, our Head of Department and the department leadership are persons with their own research groups and a primary assignment as a scientist. To strengthen the effectiveness of the leadership and aid the Head of Department, we are now looking to recruit a Scientific advisor.

The scientific advisor will focus on a variety of tasks, primarily easing the leaderships goals to further the progress and development of the department, its research, its interdisciplinary collaborations, its grant applications and procedures, strategic planning, mentoring, recruitment and outreach. This role aims to balance the demands on the leadership, the faculty, enhance institutional culture, and support the scientific and professional growth of all members, ultimately increasing the institution's scientific impact and efficiency. The scientific advisor does not run a research group nor perform research, but works closely with the department leadership.

Your mission

As scientific advisor at MBB you will be asked to:

  • Prepare surveys/data/proposals for strategic development of the department.
  • Implement measures that to strengthen MBB role towards the University at large
  • Preparation for faculty searches, appointments and promotions, in coordination with the Senate and Faculty
  • Survey the grant landscape and provide support for faculty application
  • Help map the competition nationally and internationally
  • Provide direct help to the Head of Department (meetings, letters, grant signatures e.t.c.)
  • Organize departmental events

Your profile

We are looking for applicants that have:

  • PhD in life sciences or related, with experience with working in a research group also after the PhD and a solid understanding of the research fields represented at the Department.
  • Experience in writing grants and in depth familiarity with research financing in Sweden and the EU.
  • Experience from multiple research environments and universities.
  • Excellent writing skills in English and a basic understanding of Swedish. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with faculty, staff, and external partners.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to manage multiple priorities and tasks.
