The Department of Neuroscience includes several research groups working on different aspects of nervous system function, both under normal conditions and in various disease states. Research projects include a broad range of studies on the molecular and cellular levels, networks of neurons, and the organization of the nervous system as a whole. Although experimental approaches are dominating at the department, also computational approaches gain more and more visibility. The Department has a flat organization with ca 40 research groups.
The offered position, in the lab of J Hellgren Kotaleski, is part of ongoing computational research to better understand synaptic plasticity and learning in motor systems, and especially the basal ganglia. For this it is important to develop modeling workflows of synaptic plasticity and software for data-driven parameter estimation. An imiportant goal is to build infrastructure for EBRAINS (ebrains.eu) and to support users of EBRAINS. The researcher/application expert candidate will thus be involved in research to build research infrastructure for data-driven modeling of synaptic plasticity. Familiarity with the EBRAINS infrastructure will be viewed as an advantage.
To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.
It is important that the applicant has experience in using and/or developing EBRAINS model building tools. EBRAINS (ebrains.eu) is a distributed European infrastructure for brain research, and Sweden is i particular responsible for software and model building tools at the subcellular and microcircuit levels, and to sustain that type of software will be part of the position.
