Karolinska Institutet Biobank (KI Biobank) is a core-facility at Karolinska Institutet situated at the department of medical epidemiology and biostatistics (MEB). Its purpose is to provide services and infrastructure for biobanking of samples and data for ethically approved research studies with the goal of improving public health. We offer cost effective services with high quality and security to meet researchers’ needs of fast and flexible research infrastructure. Our vision is simple: improved human health for all. After almost two decades of steady growth the biobank holds samples and related data from over 700 000 Swedish residents.

The IT group at KI Biobank is today composed of four software developers working together on systems to support sample- and data collection for scientists not only at Karolinska Institutet but also around Sweden.

Your mission

As software developer at KI Biobank, you will be part of an exciting and dynamic workplace that is an important core facility for research at KI. The research studies KI biobank serves are many and diverse, including cardiovascular diseases, different cancer types as well as psychological illnesses, to mention a few. The outcome of research connected to KI biobank has the potential to improve health for many individuals affected in Sweden as well as world-wide. The role of software developer at KI Biobank includes working with development and maintenance of IT systems that support all the research functions at KI Biobank, including integration and development of various applications for human sample data and related medical data, laboratory information management system (LIMS), laboratory robots, and the databases.

KI Biobank is now starting an exciting new project to re-shape its IT infrastructure with many different applications. We therefore need to further strengthen the team to meet the growing demand for its services to medical research at Karolinska Institutet.

Your profile

Requirements

  • University degree in computer science, computer engineering or equivalent discipline
  • Backend programming skills in Java
  • Experience of version control
  • Knowledge in either Oracle and/or SQL server
  • Knowledge of database design
  • Good knowledge in both written and oral English

Personal qualifications

  • You are flexible

  • You have good collaboration skills
  • You have good analytical ability

Emphasis will be put on applicant’s personal qualities.

Desirable skills

  • Experience in integrations/microservices
  • Experience in front-end development techniques, e.g. Angular, React, NodeJS
  • Experience in agile methodologies, e.g. Scrum
  • Knowledge about relational database concepts with skills on how to use SQL
  • Knowledge in mySQL
  • Knowledge in Linux and/or Windows server
  • Knowledge about data visualization tools, e.g. Elastic stack
  • Knowledge in Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Good knowledge in both written and oral Swedish
