Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

At the Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine, Solna, we perform research and education in infectious diseases in close collaboration with the Karolinska University Hospital. The research is translational, and involves clinical, epidemiological and experimental research in areas such as sepsis, pneumonia, meningitis, covid-19, HIV, malaria, tuberculosis, antibiotic resistance, and healthcare associated infections.

Our research group (Team Pontus Naucler) has built a unique infrastructure to perform high-quality large-scale analyses of clinical data where we have access to clinical data from electronic health records during the last 10 years in Region Stockholm (>20 million health care episodes).

The aim of the postdoctoral project is to investigate risk factors for healthcare-associated infections and to develop fully-automated predictive screening algorithms for early detection of infections as well as improved antibiotic treatment. This will lead to personalized treatment and management according to each patient’s needs, as part of the paradigm-shift towards personalized medicine in infectious diseases.

You will work in a dynamic research group consisting of epidemiologists, clinicians, bioinformaticians, and computer scientists. In collaboration between KI and KTH, you will perform first-class research using traditional epidemiological and statistical methods as well as state-of-the-art machine learning techniques and natural language processing.

Your mission

As a postdoctoral researcher you will develop and implement prediction models and perform epidemiological research with a focus on antibiotic treatment and healthcare-associated infections.

You will be involved in epidemiological study design, data management, statistical analyses and scientific writing of articles, reports and presentations. Analyses also include machine learning techniques to study complex data.

There are opportunities for initiation of your own research projects and to supervise students.

Your profile

The ideal candidate should hold a Doctoral (or be near completion) degree in medicine, epidemiology, statistics, biostatistics, mathematics, computer science, health data sciences or a related field. An advantage is having worked with large amounts of clinical data or registers, and knowledge of programs such as R, STATA, SAS or Python. You should have experience of independent work, good communication and teamwork skills. A requirement is good knowledge of English, knowledge of Swedish is beneficial. Knowledge of statistics, machine learning techniques, database management, an understanding of clinical work, or infectious diseases is an advantage.

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
