Applications for a Lab Manager/Research Coordinator position is welcome at the unit of Molecular Neurobiology, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics in Ulrika Marklund’s Enteric Nervous System Biology Lab.

The Department resides in a new research building, Biomedicum, providing modern technological platforms and an open environment for interactions across departments and disciplines.

Your mission

We are looking for a Lab Manager/Research Coordinator to provide the principal investigator and the group with organizational and administrative support in projects as well as general laboratory upkeep and scientific expertise. Responsibilities would include the genotyping and management of mouse colonies but could also involve experimental participation in projects depending on the expertise of the candidate. The administrative part includes the order/purchase management and budgeting/administration of international grants (ERC/NIH), organization of chemicals/reagents/antibodies, introduction of new lab members, and active participation in the executive arm of the research unit.

Your profile

The applicants should hold a doctoral degree within biomedicine disciplines and/or have previous lab management experience at a Swedish University. Prior experience in mouse modelling, management of mouse colonies, ethical permits, grant management, and knowledge of Karolinska Institute databases are meriting. The candidate will perform documentation and communication in both Swedish and English, why written and verbal communication in both languages is advantageous. We are looking for an approachable, structured, organized and service-minded co-worker for the longer perspective.

What do we offer?

A creative and inspiring environment full of expertise and curiosity. Our research group is based at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics (MBB), at the Karolinska Institutet (KI), Stockholm, Sweden, within the Unit of Molecular Neurobiology.

Karolinska Institutet is one of the world's leading medical universities. Our vision is to pursue the development of knowledge about life and to promote a better health for all. At Karolinska Institutet, we conduct successful medical research and hold the largest range of medical education in Sweden. Karolinska Institutet is a state university, which entitles to several benefits such as extended holiday and generous occupational pension. Employees also have access to our modern gym for free and receive reimbursements for medical care.

The Unit of Molecular Neurobiology has presently seven research groups, focused on several aspects of development, stem cell biology, neuroscience and cancer, providing a unique critical mass and expertise, extensive collaboration and vibrant scientific environment.

The Marklund Research Lab addresses principal questions in enteric nervous system (ENS) biology with a focus on neural cell diversity. The team has recently identified molecularly distinct classes in the ENS as well as a new conceptual model for how these neuron classes emerge during the embryonic development. Current and future efforts aim to 1) define the connectivity and function of the enteric neuron classes, and 2) uncover molecular programs controlling cell fate decisions during development. A wide range of transcriptomic, cellular, genetic, and imaging methodologies are utilized to meet these aims. By resolving the ENS cell connectome and its development, the lab hopes to pave the way for better understanding, characterization and treatment of prevalent gut disorders.
