Our research group seeks to develop new strategies for cell-based immunotherapy based on insights into the functional regulation of NK cells. Through partnerships with leading NK cell groups in Europe and the US, as well as the biotech industry we design and run clinical trials for patients with cancer. At the Center for Infectious Medicine at the Karolinska Institutet you will find a stimulating research environment with the vision to be a world-leading translational research center within immunology. The Malmberg Lab is located in Stockholm/Sweden and Oslo/Norway and currently consists of 24 people. We are now looking for a highly motivated post-doc with an interest in molecular immunology and experimental immunotherapy. The project concerns the spatiotemporal regulation of NK cell education with a particular focus on the cellular and molecular mechanisms that allow NK cells to translate receptor input into a “molecular memory” and how this is affected in the tumor microenvironment. The studies involve basic molecular immunology with a strong translational component and is carried out in close collaboration with our industrial partner Merck and the Malmberg Lab at Oslo University Hospital. One goal is to develop in vitro assays to study NK cell tuning and use a variety of single-cell assays, including high-dimensional immune profiling by flow cytometry, single-cell indexed FACS-sorting and RNA Seq. The project also involves molecular biology/cloning, transient transfection / overexpression, retroviral and lentiviral transduction in mammalian cells. Additional tasks include gene-editing of primary NK cells / NK cell lines by CRISPR/Cas9, cytotoxicity assays, and qPCR. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to plan, execute, and analyze experiments in an independent manner and contribute scientifically to the group.
The candidate must hold a PhD equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree in the fields of immunology, cell- or molecular biology/life sciences, with publications in internationally renowned peer-reviewed journals. The candidate should be self-motivated, have good communication skills and ability to interact effectively and work productively in a team. Candidates should have a strong, documented background in single cell-based assessment of immune cells and experience in flow cytometry, functional immunological assays and preferably translational research. In connection with the appointment of the postdoc position, we will accord special weight to academic skills; particularly demonstrated excellence in research, a strong dedication and excellent communication skills. Precious experience with industry collaborations is a merit. Fluency in English is a requirement.
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
