The research group of Carmen Gerlach is looking for a research assistant. Research in the Gerlach lab is directed at understanding basic cellular and molecular principles governing CD8 T cell responses to acute infections and cancer. Using a combination of several state-of-the-art single-cell technologies we strive to understand mechanisms underlying the generation, maintenance and consequences of the heterogeneity within the T cell immune response. Our long-term goal is that this knowledge will contribute to improved vaccines and immunotherapies.
We are recruiting a research assistant who is dedicated to contributing to our research group’s scientific progress and environment. Your duties will be a combination of administrative, organizational and wet-lab research tasks. You will be contributing to several research projects withing our group by working together with and assisting other group members, as well as carrying out experiments independently. Laboratory techniques include qPCR, cell line propagation, flow cytometry, work with BSL2 pathogens, lymphocyte isolation from murine tissues, tumor inoculation, basic injection techniques. This position requires presentation of results and maintenance of accurate and detailed experimental records. You will be responsible for mouse colony maintenance and typing, and the coordination of processes such as potential rederivation, cryopreservation and shipments, as well as the purchase of equipment and help with administrative tasks. Furthermore, you will play a central role in organizing of group activities and common group duties.
We are looking for a dedicated and talented person with a very high motivation to work within the Gerlach lab. The successful candidate should hold a BSc or MSc degree in Biomedicine, Immunology, Molecular Biology or a related field.
We need a person with excellent organizational, planning and communication skills, who is sensitive to cross-cultural communication, and whose personality fits in the group. Fluent use of English is required. Knowledge of the swedish language is a plus. A strong motivation to contribute to other lab members’ projects and the common good of the research group is important. The successful candidate should have experience with at least some of the laboratory techniques mentioned above – the more the better, needs to be willing work with mice and should be scientifically curious. FELASA certification is a plus. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively is a prerequisite.
