We are investigating tissue immunology, with a specific focus on interactions between immune cells and the tissue microenvironment. The Department of Laboratory of Medicine, located in Campus Flemingsberg, is one of the Karolinska Institutet’s largest departments with 9 research divisions including the Division for Biomolecular and Cellular Medicine (BCM) where the project will be carried out. The laboratory is located in the new research facility ANA Futura, which provides all the equipment and infrastructure needed for cellular and molecular biology research.
The Kaipe group shares lab and office space as well as scientific activities with two other larger groups.
We are seeking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic undergraduate student with an interest in human immunology who will explore tissue resident and circulating T cells and myeloid cells in different aspects. The applicant will be expected to use a wide range of immunological techniques, including multicolor flow cytometry, for the characterization of immune cells and to understand the environment in which these cells reside. In vitro cell cultures will also be used to examine immune cell responses.
The candidate should have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
The applicant should have a solid background in cellular immunology and have the practical skills to work in a lab. Experience with multi-color flow cytometry and related software packages is a prerequisite. In addition, experience with cell culture, cell isolation and handling of solid tissues is essential. Furthermore, excellent proficiency in both spoken and written English is necessary.
Scholarships for undergraduate and graduate level education can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. These scholarships aim to provide students at the undergraduate or graduate level with early practical experience of research work, in order to strengthen the link between education and research and encourage future studies at the doctoral level.
The scholarships can be granted either for studies in an existing course or for a shorter period of practical research experience (documented in an individual study plan/research plan) for admitted students at the undergraduate or graduate level. The scholarship may be awarded for up to 12 months (divided into a maximum of four courses/periods) during the study period. Decisions on scholarships may be made for a maximum of six months at a time.
To be eligible for a scholarship, the person must have been admitted (and registered in Ladok) to KI to study at the undergraduate or graduate level or admitted (and registered) to undergraduate or graduate level programs at a university with which KI collaborates.
Location: ANA Futura, Flemingsberg
The amount is tax free, and it is set for six months at a time, paid out on a monthly basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:
