The Department of Laboratory Medicine at Karolinska Institutet offers a strong, dynamic and international research environment with top-of-the-line equipment and facilities. The candidate will in the group of Assoc. Professor Jonas Fuxe and will have access to unique breast cancer cohorts and collaboration with other researchers at KI and Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab).
The research conducted at the Division of Pathology ranges from the fundamental to improved treatments and diagnostic tools for cancer, cardiovascular and lung diseases. Research is cross-boundary and uses established and modern methods to understand causes and mechanisms for development and progression of various disease conditions. Research in pathology is closely linked to the clinical diagnostic services in clinical pathology and cytology, which are part of laboratory medicine. The clinical samples are extensively used for research purposes, and an increasing number of samples are stored in biobanks for future analyses. Teaching in pathology is provided both at the basic and advanced undergraduate levels and occupies a central position in education to physicians and dentists.
The Fuxe group studies epithelial-mesenchymal plasticity (EMP) as a link between inflammation and cancer metastasis. We are therefore seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic postdoctoral fellow interested in translational cancer research with focus on onco-immunology. More specifically, the project aims to explore using recently identified EMP markers as a diagnostic tool to identify early signs of cancer invasion and metastasis. The postdoc will work under direct supervision of Fuxe whom currently is expanding his research group at the Division of Pathology. However, the candidate will also work closely with the other group members, who are PhD students and postdocs with different educational and geographical backgrounds.
