The Human Protein Atlas (HPA) brain profiling group at the Karolinska Institute is part of the HPA consortium with research groups at Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Uppsala University and Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab). The group at Karolinska institute in involved in several projects that aim to map protein expression and distribution in the human brain and organs and tissues of other non-human mammalian species. The group uses transcriptomics (RNAseq) and antibody-based fluorescence approaches to generated protein expression data which is part of the public accessible resources proteinatlas.org and rnaatlas.org. In the next phase the group will implement single cell/nuclei transcriptomics and spatial transcriptomics analysis of brain tissue to increase the cellular and spatial resolution.
As part of a team of neuroscientists, molecular biologists and bioinformaticians, the postdoctoral researcher will be involved in single cell and spatial transcriptomics projects. The postdoctoral researcher will independently perform experiments including dissection of human brain tissue, tissue processing, molecular biology & sequencing, create his/her/their bioinformatics pipelines for data analysis, data visualization and online presentation. The postdoctoral researcher will also be the main author and responsible for drafting manuscripts for publication. In addition to research activities the postdoctoral researcher will also be involved in teaching activities, mainly supervision of BSc/MSc students.
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.
The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
Only candidates that have performed both wet-and dry lab aspects of single cell/nuclei or spatial transcriptomics experiments of human brain samples are considered. Candidates need to demonstrate that they have performed all experimental steps, from tissue dissection and processing, molecular biology steps and data analysis.
Candidates should as well have at least one publication in a high-impact journal (IF>15) as first author reporting single cell/nuclei or spatial transcriptomics analysis of human brain (healthy or disease).
Location: Solna
The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
