The Department is organized in 10 divisions: Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Pediatric Endocrinology, Pediatric Surgery, Neuropediatrics, Pediatric Oncology, Neonatology, Reproductive Endocrinology, Neuropsychiatry (KIND), Reproductive and Perinatal Health. The divisions have separate scientific profiles and vary in size and have several research groups, dealing with both basic and clinical science.

Division
A postdoctoral position is available starting in the fall/winter 2014 at Science for Life Laboratory in Stockholm to study the signaling function of Na,K ATPase and its role for growth and protection of apoptosis in the “Cell Physics and Pediatric Cell and Molecular Biology” group headed by Prs Hjalmar Brismar (KTH) and Anita Aperia (KI), under the leadership of Dr. Nicolas Fritz.

Duties
Our group uses advanced live imaging techniques combined with various molecular tools and reporters to study the function and mechanisms of regulation of the Na,K ATPase in epithelial and neuronal cells. In particular, we have uncovered a new non canonical signaling pathway of the Na,K ATPase that protects form apoptosis (Burlaka et al, JASN 2013, Fontana et al, FEBS letter 2013, Li et al, Nat Comm 2010, Li et al, JASN 2006, Aizman et al, PNAS 2001). The post-doctoral researcher will be an important part of a strong effort to characterize in detail this signaling pathway, with a particular emphasis on the regulation of mitochondrial components. The project will include further identification of the signaling cascade as well as cell and molecular studies of the apoptotic process. Studies will use primary epithelial cells and primary neurons from both rats and transgenic mice.

Entry requirements
We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with a Ph.D. from an appropriate discipline, a strong background in molecular biology and experience in the design and handling of transgenic animals. The successful candidate will work together with a strong team on a very exciting project. The ability to express oneself in speech and writing in English at a high level and interact effectively and work productively in a team will be considered important. Emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

A person is eligible for a position as postdoctoral research fellow if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc.

The position is available for 1 year with possible extension, from autumn/winter 2014.

Application process
An employment application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  1. A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  2. A complete list of publications
  3. A summary of current work (no more than one page)
  4. Verifications for crediting of illness, military service, work for labour unions or student organisations, parental leave or similar circumstances
  5. Verification from the thesis defence committee or the equivalent (only if the thesis defence is scheduled within three months after the application deadline)

The application is to be submitted on the MyNetwork recruitment system.
