Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We are a young, dynamic research group working to understand the interplay between dyslipidemia, the immune system and the cardiometabolic syndrome. As a part of a well-established larger network of researchers in metabolism and cardiovascular inflammation, we focus on identifying mechanisms of disease initiation in atherosclerosis and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). As part of a recently awarded Leducq Foundation international network grant (https://www.fondationleducq.org/network/bcells-in-cardiovascular-disease/) we have a particular focus on B lymphocytes and antibodies. Please see our recent publications - Circulation 2019 (PMID: 30894016) and JEM 2020 (PMID: 32780801).

Division

A Postdoc position for is open within the Cardiovascular Medicine Division at the Department of Medicine Solna, one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet. The Department consists of several divisions that are separated into different research groups. The coreactivities of the department are research, doctoral education and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students. The research has three main profiles: allergy, cardiovascular medicine and inflammatory diseases. The Cardiovascular Medicine labs are located in the brand-new research building BioClinicum in Solna, with close proximity to both the clinics at the Karolinska Hospital and the research resources of Karolinska Institutet.

Duties

The postdoctoral project is focused on studying how the immune system interacts with dyslipidemiadriven tissue dysfunction, particularly in the vasculature and the liver, although we are expanding to other organs. We use our custom made mouse models for mRNA-seq, scRNA-seq, Spatial transcriptomics, spectral cytometry and advanced imaging and confocal techniques. Our overall aim is to map out the initiation of disease pathology and finds ways to prevent tissue damage. The appointment will be for two years with a possible transision into employment for additional two years.

Entry requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative researcher with a PhD in a relevant discipline and a strong research background in experimental cellular/molecular research including, but not limited to metabolic, cardiovascular or vascular biology and Immunology, preferentially documented with several research publications. Applicants should have solid experience from in vivo animal research and be able to independently or together with colleagues plan, perform, analyse and document animal experiments as well as maintain animal colonies. Scientific expertise and an ambitious, pro-active and problem-solving attitude are highly valued. Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English are a must, as is the ability to work in a team.

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent. A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process

An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:
