We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher interested in mitochondrial biology. Our research aims at identifying the molecular consequences of metabolic defects, with focus on understanding the role of mitochondrial function in cellular metabolism. For this, we use model systems, ranging from patient-derived samples, reprogrammed neuroepithelial stems cells to genetically modified animal models.

Your mission

The Wredenberg group is part of the Division of Molecular Metabolism at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics at the Karolinska Institute. The division aims at understanding the regulation of mitochondrial function in health and disease. The laboratory offers an outstanding research environment for basic and translational research with a close association to the Centre for Inherited Metabolic Diseases (CMMS) at Karolinska University Hospital.

Research at the division aims at understanding the regulation of mtDNA expression, using both molecular and structural approaches, study the role mitochondrial metabolism in neurodegeneration and cancer biology, as well as diagnose patients with inherited metabolic diseases. Your profile

Applications are invited from individuals of the highest calibre with a Ph.D. degree. A strong background in molecular biology with focus on mitochondrial biology and/or metabolism is favoured. Comprehension in mouse and/or Drosophila genetics is preferred, but not required. Experience in handling large data and bioinformatic skill is meriting. A working knowledge of the English language is essential. Personal suitability is of great importance when evaluating the applicants.

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
