AIMES – Center for the Advancement of Integrated Medical and Engineering Sciences is a newly established interdisciplinary research center co-affiliated between Karolinska Institutet (KI) and the KTH Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). Research at AIMES is characterized by intimate interactions between pre-clinical and clinical scientists and researchers with natural sciences and engineering backgrounds. Biomedical research in infection and neuroscience is addressed by the development of cutting-edge approaches based on Organic Bioelectronics, Organ-on-Chip technology, and Tissue Microbiology, which combines expertise in electroactive polymers, chemistry, microfluidics, neurobiology, microbiology, physiology, pathology and intravital imaging. Other areas of research include renewable biomaterials, sensor technologies and anti-fouling surfaces. AIMES has an explicit aim to translate scientific findings to societal use via strong interactions with external stakeholders. AIMES is located in Biomedicum, KI Campus Solna. AIMES is hosted at KI by the Department of Neuroscience, world-leaders in research on the function of the nervous system in health and disease. AIMES host at KTH is the Department of Fibre and Polymer Technology, the largest academic institution on native and synthetic polymers in Sweden.
To develop solid-state nanopore and nanogaps for molecular recognition and decoding. The project will be carried out in close collaboration between KI and KTH. This is a fixed-term employment for two years.
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence, preferably not more than three years ago. You have a PhD in Electrical engineering with specialization in nanotechnology or nanoengineering. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
Experience from wafer-size processing in solid state nanopore and nanogap development is preferred. Knowledge in molecular sensing with nanogaps is advantageous for the position. Extensive experience in M/NEMS cleanroom processes and, in particular, nanofabrication expertise in electron beam lithography is required. The candidate should have experimental and computational background in continuum and fracture mechanics, as well as in electron quantum tunneling. The candidate must show a good publication record with published first author publications. The candidate should have experience of recruiting research funding.
