Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We are looking for a highly motivated post-doc with a keen eye for both maths and biology to help us develop a new paradigm for spatially resolved transcriptomics where we use neighbour-to-neighbour interactions between DNA strands followed by sequencing to deduce the original spatial network of the molecules. Our team is a leading group in the field of DNA nanotechnology and molecular tools for life-science research. As a research lab we strive to unravel how spatial relations between molecules on the nanoscale level affect biology. These are hard-to-get-to problems where many traditional methods are inadequate. The fields of nanoscale anatomy and spatial omics are now waiting to be fully explored and we are at the forefront of developing the right technologies for the job.

The Division
The Högberg lab (www.hogberglab.net) is located at the department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics at the Karolinska Institutet (KI). The lab is currently a diverse team of physicists, biologists, chemists and computational biologists. We offer a stimulating scientific environment and a top research infrastructure both locally, at the department level and institution level. KI is among the world’s top medical universities and KI’s faculty awards the Nobel Prize in physiology and medicine.

Your profile
If you fulfil at least a couple of the following criteria you are encouraged to apply. In order of decreasing importance, you should:

  • - Have good programming skills (we work mainly in Python but also C++, Julia and other languages is of interest)
  • - Have bioinformatics skills: analysing sequencing datasets, mapping, motif detection/discovery.
  • - Have familiarity with or capability to get into network theory/graph theory for reconstructing networks.
  • - Have skills in molecular biology methods in practice, DNA amplification, gel electrophoresis, enzymatic reactions and similar.
  • - Have knowledge of cell and developmental biology.

We offer
Exciting research projects of direct relevance for biological and medical research in a lab positioned at the cutting edge of life-science technologies development.

Our research is curiosity driven and the lab will provide ample opportunity for creative persons to strongly influence the direction of his/her project. Because of this we are primarily interested in individuals that are highly motivated and that aim to become independent researchers.

Entry requirements
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent. A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent. To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Location: Biomedicum at Campus Solna in the northern part of Stockholm.

Type of scholarship
The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process
An application must contain the following documents in English:
A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
A complete list of publications
A summary of current work (no more than one page)

The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.
