Karolinska Institutet, Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology

Research at the Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology, MTC, focuses on immunology, infection biology and cell and tumor biology. MTC hosts more than 35 research groups and provides an excellent research environment with close interaction between basic and clinical science (https://ki.se/en/mtc/department-of-microbiology-tumor-and-cell-biology).

Division
Ass. Prof Karin Blomqvist MD PhD works on pathogenesis and regulation of cell division in Streptococcus pneumoniae and is associated to the group of Prof Birgitta Henriques-Normark. The laboratory is located at the Solna campus, creating a stimulating research environment and access to several state-of-the-art core facilities. We are affiliated with both MTC and Division of Clinical Microbiology at Karolinska University Hospital providing a close interaction between basic and clinical science.

Duties
We search for a postdoctoral fellow who will work on pathogenesis of Streptococcus pneumoniae aiming at deciphering the regulation of pneumococcal cell division. Both in vitro cell culture models, high-resolution visualization technologies, image analysis and different omics approaches (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics etc.) will be used.

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a PhD degree in microbiology, preferably in bacteriology. We expect the candidate to have a strong scientific background. Previous experience in relevant subject areas for the project will be prioritized. Key techniques are standard cell- and molecular biology techniques including cloning, fluorescent and super-resolution microscopy and proteomics. The applicant should be a team player and have strong motivation and executive capacity. Good communication skills in English are required.

Entry requirements
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.

A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate.
