Karolinska Institutet, the Department of Medicine, Huddinge

Dep. of Medicine, Huddinge
The Department of Medicine, Huddinge conducted preclinical and clinical research in a variety of areas and undergraduate and graduate education. The department is internationally oriented and consists of seven units with about 40 teams.

Division
The Center for Hematology and Regenerative Medicine (HERM; http://ki.se/en/medh/herm) is a new translational research center encompassing research groups involved in hematology, hemopoiesis, immunology and cell therapy.

HERM was created during 2011 with a mission to join research groups within hematology and hemopoietic cell therapy at Karolinska Institutet in a new translational research environment. The establishment of HERM was made possible through support from the Karolinska University Hospital and the Karolinska Institutet Wallenberg Institute of Regenerative Medicine (WIRM) and the Department of Medicine, Huddinge. HERM has an excellent structure and capacity for advanced cell culture and biobanking, and has with support from WIRM, established a new cutting-edge facility for flow cytometry.

Description of the research group
The Woll group's (http://ki.se/en/medh/petter-woll-group) research focus is on cellular and molecular pathways governing the earliest fate decisions in normal hematopoiesis (Luc et al, Nat Immuol, 2012; Böiers et al, Cell Stem Cell, 2013; Sanjuan-Pla et al, Nature, 2013; Drissen et al., Nat Immunol, 2016) and how these are dysregulated in hematologic malignancies (Tehranchi et al, New Engl J Med, 2010; Mead et al, Cell Rep, 2013; Woll et al, Cancer Cell, 2014). This is studied in mouse models, as well as in relevant patients. Key technologies applied towards these research directions include advanced flow cytometry, mouse genetics, high-throughput DNA and RNA sequencing including single cell analysis, and various in vitro and in vivo stem cell assays.

Job description
We are seeking an experienced lab manager with an extensive background in advanced flow cytometry analysis and cell sorting. Applicants must also be familiar with experimental methods used to study hematopoietic stem cell biology. In addition to the entry requirements, the candidate will be responsible for organizing common lab resources, such as equipment, reagents and lab infrastructure. The candidate will also take responsibility towards training new lab members in flow cytometry, as well as assist in the general introduction of the laboratory for new staff, guest researches and graduate students.

  • Previous experience in experimental application of molecular and cellular biology techniques to the study of hematopoiesis
  • Experience in documentation and storage of research data
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience in training research staff

Desired

  • Strong organizational skills to plan experimental bench-work
