Chemical Proteomics Core Facility at KI Biomedicum
The Chemical Proteomics Core Facility of Karolinska Institutet at Biomedicum, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, announces a staff position for research engineer. The Facility is headed by Dr. Massimiliano Gaetani and is part of the Division of Physiological Chemistry I, led by prof. Roman Zubarev, who is also scientific director of the Facility. The Facility is a node of the Chemical Proteomics and Proteogenomics platform, which is part of two national infrastructures - SciLifeLab and BioMS.

The facility is focused on providing proteomics-based approaches to deconvolute targets and action mechanisms of drugs / compounds in cells. The main analytical technique is Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS). Cell culturing is an important part of the analysis workflow. Hydrogen-deuterium exchange mass spectrometry (HDX-MS) for elucidation of protein binding interface is also a provided service.

The facility provides comprehensive service, including cell culturing, cell treatment, proteomics sample preparation, LC-MS analysis and bioinformatics data processing.

The equipment includes biological safety cabinets class II, CO2 incubators, a high-performance ultracentrifuge, UPLC for off-line fractionation, electrophoresis systems and seven LC-MS Orbitrap systems, including two recently acquired Orbitrap Fusion Lumos mass spectrometers, and other diverse equipment.

Duties
The work requires interaction with the staff and research personnel of both the Facility and the rest of the division. The duties include:

  • To maintain in good working order the cell culture laboratory
  • To perform cell culturing and cell culture treatments
  • To perform sample processing procedures for quantitative proteomics, according to provided protocols
  • To assist with keeping track and ordering the reagents and consumables
  • To assist in instrumentation and lab maintenance, as will be instructed on site
  • To participate in method development tasks and in LC-MS analyses
  • To assist in LC-MS data processing
  • To write and present analysis reports

Entry requirements
Formal education degree, such as bachelor, Master or PhD in relevant areas will be considered a merit but is not strictly required. The ideal candidate must have documented experience in cell culturing and use of common laboratory equipment, BSL2 laboratory practices and sterile techniques. Experience with culture of primary cells and cancer stem cells is a plus. Prior experience in quantitative proteomics, knowledge of LC-MS and familiarity with proteomics tasks is also desirable. Experience with HPLC or UPLC will be considered advantageous. Wet lab experience in protein purification, protein biochemical and biophysical fields, including the use of heavy instrumentation, will be positively evaluated. The capability to accurately perform the assigned cell culture and proteomics tasks is essential, technical expertise is a plus. Familiarity with bioinformatics software and experience with IT or programming will be considered an advantage.

A service-oriented personality, good inter-personal skills and the ability to efficiently work in an international research environment are absolutely required. English is the working language; good command of it in oral and written communications is a must.

Position
