Division
This position is placed within Vladana Vukojević´s research group (https://ki.se/en/cns/vladana-vukojevics-research-group). Our cross-disciplinary research group investigates dynamic self-regulation of complex biochemical networks and its impairment in common neuropsychiatric diseases, such as Alcohol Use Disorders (AUD). Particular focus of our research is on the development and use of quantitative time-resolved techniques with single-molecule sensitivity to characterize with high spatial resolution the convoluted ethanol effects on reaction-diffusion process in live cells. With a current grant from the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF) and the Swedish Research Council (VR), we have developed unique instrumentation for quantitative scanning-free confocal fluorescence microscopy imaging that is suitable for the study of fast dynamical processes in live cells/tissues. We have also established and are responsible for running the Laboratory for functional Fluorescence Microscopy Imaging (fFMI) at the Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM) (https://www.cmm.ki.se/functional-fluorescence-microscopy-imaging-ffmi-).
Duties
We are looking for a capable, self-motivated and enthusiastic co-worker with knowledge in molecular biology, biochemistry and biophysics, and particular expertise in the development and application of optical imaging techniques in biomedical research. The focus of this appointment is on basic research of molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the development of Alcohol Use Disorders (AUD). The successful applicant will further develop quantitative fluorescence microscopy and spectroscopy based methods with high spatial and temporal resolution and single-molecule sensitivity, and apply them in pre-clinical research that focuses on molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying AUD. The applicant will be responsible for conducting basic research; writing reports, scientific manuscripts and for presenting the work at national and international meetings. He/she is expected to write research proposals, serve as mentor for BSc, MSc and PhD students and is encouraged to establish new collaborations. He/she is expected to be independent in performing the work, but should also be able to be a strong team player and motivated to work in a vibrant international and multidisciplinary research group.
Entry requirements
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence.
We are looking for an applicant with a doctorate degree in biophotonics, biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, biomedicine or similar. We stress scientific expertise when assessing applicants and will place particular emphasis on the synergy of their research interests with the scientific interests of the CNS Department and CMM. Demonstrated ability to perform high-profile experiments, a broad knowledge and experience with biophysical, biochemical, cell biology and molecular cloning techniques, with a particular focus on fluorescence microscopy and spectroscopy techniques and their application in pre-clinical neuroscience research is advantageous, and will be of a strong merit for the applicant. Knowledge of MATLAB and Origin data analysis and graphing software, and teaching experience are also strong merits.
