The Department of Medicine, Solna, is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet. The department consists of several divisions that are separated into different research groups. The core activities of the department are research, doctoral education and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students. The research has three main profiles: allergy, cardiovascular medicine and inflammatory diseases.
A doctoral student is admitted to third-cycle/doctoral education. A doctoral education consists of supervised research, combined with courses and other educational activities. An individual study plan is established for each doctoral student. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.
Research group
The student will be part of Centre for Pharmacoepidemiology (CPE) at the Department of Medicine, Solna, KI, which is led by professor Helle Kieler who will be the main supervisor. CPE was established in 2005, with the explicit purpose to create a centre of academic excellence in pharmacoepidemiology and the centre has since its start met the growing demands, both nationally and internationally, for data on drug safety and drug utilization.
CPE is involved in several international studies focusing on drug treatment during pregnancy and the consequences for mother and her child. A strong team of epidemiologists, statisticians, medical doctors, and post-doctoral researchers exists at CPE. International collaborations are established with researchers around the world in the International Pregnancy Safety Study consortium (InPreSS) and its Nordic counterpart NorPreSS. We now wish to expand the team with a doctoral student. For more information about CPE, please see http://ki.se/en/meds/centre-for-pharmacoepidemiology/.
The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student
The PhD project will focus on antibiotics during pregnancy, including the impact of antibiotics in food animals, for choice of treatment of infections during pregnancy using linked data from national health– and population registers. The successful applicant is also expected to participate in activities related to research by the InPreSS and NorPreSS team at CPE, and in educational activities.
