Department of Medicine, Solna, Clinical Epidemiology division

The Department of Medicine, Solna, is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet. The department consists of several divisions that are separated into different research groups. The core activities of the department are research, doctoral education and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students. The research has three main profiles: allergy, cardiovascular medicine and inflammatory diseases.

Division
The research group in chronic inflammatory epidemiology is a young and fast growing group based at the Clinical Epidemiology Unit at the Department of Medicine in Solna. We are approximately 15 people (doctoral students, postdocs, assistant professors, senior researchers) with different backgrounds but with common research interests, namely the study of chronic inflammatory diseases using Swedish national registers and clinical data. See our homepage for more information about who we are and what we do (http://ki.se/en/meds/kep-chronic-inflammatory-diseases). Our research is supported by several different funding sources, both public and private.

Duties
We are recruiting a research assistant to be part of a team conducting epidemiological studies of chronic inflammatory diseases, specifically sarcoidosis and systemic lupus erythematosus. The main duties include database management, statistical analysis, presenting results and manuscript preparation. The research assistant will also help with data entry and literature review. Other duties include organizing and attending meetings with collaborators.

Entry requirements
The position requires a master’s degree in epidemiology or biomedicine and experience with data analysis. Previous experience in chronic inflammatory disease epidemiology research is a merit. It is required that the applicant is able to work independently as well as a part of a research group. Being able to use statistical programs, such as SAS or R, is necessary, and it is merited if the candidate is familiar with Swedish register data. We are looking for a candidate who is curious about the causes and consequences of chronic inflammatory diseases and enjoys learning new things. The applicant should be detail-oriented and well-organized, as the ability to manage several projects simultaneously is essential. The applicant must communicate well both in written and in spoken English.

Application process
The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system and should include the following documents in English:

  • - Personal letter
  • - Curriculum vitae
