Up to three positions as part of the SciLifeLab Fellow Program. Research by the selected candidates will be performed at the Science for Life Laboratory and the candidates will be affiliated with Karolinska Institutet (KI). For their KI affiliation, the selected candidates have the possibility to choose a suitable department at KI.

Background
Karolinska Institutet is one of the leading medical universities in the world. The mission of KI is to contribute to the improvement of human health through research and education (www.ki.se). Over 40 per cent of all medical academic research in Sweden is conducted at KI, which offers the broadest range of education in medicine and health sciences in the country. KI is closely linked to the health care system including the Karolinska University Hospital. The Nobel Assembly at KI selects the Nobel laureates in physiology or medicine since 1901.

The Science for Life Laboratory is a Swedish center for molecular biosciences with focus on health and environmental research. SciLifeLab provides unique possibilities for large-scale life science research with an advanced technological infrastructure and a focus on performing multidisciplinary research involving, e.g., high throughput DNA sequencing, analysis of gene expression, protein profiling, cellular profiling, chemical and functional biology and advanced visualization, advanced bioinformatics, biostatistics, and systems biology. The center combines frontline technical expertise with advanced knowledge of translational medicine and molecular bioscience. SciLifeLab is a joint effort between Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm University and Uppsala University. SciLifeLab was established in 2010 and today, SciLifeLab has operations at a number of Swedish universities; with over 400 employees at the service facilities and more than 150 associated research groups.

Description of the work
We are looking for up to three talented Assistant Professors who are expected to develop world-leading independent biomedical research in one or several of the fields covered by SciLifeLab and KI. Each position will be placed at SciLifeLab and the candidate employed by one department at KI that will have the administrative and economic responsibility.

Qualifications
To qualify, the applicant must hold a doctor’s degree or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a doctorate in Life science or similar. Applicants who have completed their degree no more than seven (7) years before the last date for application should be given priority.

The employment as a Assistant professor will be fixed to four years with possibility of extending the funding by two years. After six years, the candidate will be expected to apply for a permanent position. The positions include substantial grant support enabling research in high-throughput molecular bioscience.

Assessment criteria
Selection will be based on demonstrated scientific excellence in research, and on the originality and potential of the proposed research. A PhD and at least 2 years post-doctoral training in biomedical science or similar and in areas important for SciLifeLab and Karolinska Institute is crucial. Applicants who will apply high throughput molecular bioscience and advanced analytical/computational methods towards central problems in basic or translational biomedical sciences are especially encouraged to apply.

Form of employment:
Temporary employment as forskarassistent for 4 years with the potential for additional funding for 2 years.
