Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We are looking for a highly motivated Post-Doctoral candidate interested in understanding the molecular drivers of metabolic dysfunction.

Division & Duties

The candidate will work on the regulation of insulin sensitivity in skeletal muscle as well as on a whole-body level using several model systems. Projects cover disease mechanisms as well as protocol and assay development.

You will join an exciting project headed by Dr. David Rizo Roca, aimed at identification and biological validation of key regulatory metabolic pathways that contribute to changes of insulin resistance in the context of type 2 diabetes. For this project we are looking to recruit a person interested in understanding the role of exercise-responsive metabolites in the regulation of skeletal muscle metabolism, mitochondrial function and insulin sensitivity.

Dr Rizo Roca’s team is part of the Section of Integrative Physiology, headed by Professor Juleen R Zierath and Professor Anna Krook, at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology.  The research group is interdisciplinary, with expertise spanning clinical physiology and medicine, cell physiology, exercise physiology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics, all focused on the study of metabolic disease.

Entry requirements

Postdoctoral scholarships may be established for foreign researchers who pursue their merit in Sweden. A foreign researcher is a person living in another country who comes to Sweden with the intention of only staying in Sweden for all or part of their postdoctoral education at KI. Persons who are resident in Sweden and/or have carried out all or part of their academic education at KI or some other educational institution in Sweden cannot be considered for scholarships. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.

A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four-year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.

To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate, or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post-doctoral education.

We are looking for a candidate with doctoral training in experimental research. Expertise and research experience in the study of cellular metabolism is desired, both in vitro and in vivo. FELASA certification or similar, as well as research experience from clinical studies and from analysis of human samples is also valuable. Previous work with cell signalling and bioinformatic analysis of large data sets is an extra merit. The candidate must be fluent in English, have excellent writing skills and be able to take the lead on projects. We are looking for a cooperative candidate who thrives to work with others. The candidate will join an enthusiastic, collaborative, hardworking and dynamic team.

What do we offer?
