Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We are looking for a motivated research specialist that will work on nanoscale biology.

The project will be performed at the Cell Signalling, Immunity and Nanoimaging (CSI:Nano) Lab, located at SciLifeLab at the Karolinska Institute and the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health (KBH).  SciLifeLab and KI are excellent places to carry out basic biomedical research with clinical potential. Our lab is in the intersection of biology, chemistry, physics and engineering, aiming to reveal the molecular secrets of physiology and diseases. The candidate will greatly benefit from this interdisciplinary environment and unique infrastructure.

Description of the subject area

Nanoscale bioparticles such as exosomes, lipid nanoparticles, lipoproteins are important biomarkers for health and disease. We are looking for a research specialist to develop and apply methodologies to study these particles in health and diseases.

Your mission

The research specialist will study nanoscale bioparticles using state-of-the art methodologies.

The project involves:

  • Generating or isolating nanoscale bioparticles from human samples.
  • Applying advanced imaging, single particle profiler, mass photometry and deformability cytometry.
  • Developing and using data analysis tools for these techniques.
  • Work in close collaboration with the other CSI:Nano lab members as well as other labs at SciLifeLab and KI.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

Requirement for this position is BSc in life or natural sciences (biology, molecular biology, physics, chemistry or similar) and MSc and PhD in physical or life sciences.

Assessment criteria

  • Impactful publications on nanoscale biology and membrane biology.
  • Previous expertise in analytical technologies, e.g., advanced imaging tools, single particle profiler, mass photometry, dynamic light scattering, fluorescence fluctuation techniques
  • Previous expertise in biophysics, membrane biology and basic cell and molecular biology
  • Independent working skills, teamwork spirit, collaborative spirit and willingness to contribute to the existing projects
  • Expertise in being responsible for instruments and projects
  • Previous supervision in the laboratory
  • Expertise in scientific programming

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI. We will rank the candidates according to these criteria and offer the position to the first ranked.

What do we offer?

A creative and inspiring environment with wide-ranging expertise and interests. Karolinska Institutet is one of the world's leading medical universities. Here, we conduct successful medical research and hold the largest range of medical education in Sweden. At KI, you get to meet researchers working with a wide range of specialisms and methods, giving you ample opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience with the various scientific fields within medicine and health. It is the crossover collaborations, which have pushed KI to where it is today, at the forefront of global research. Several of the people you meet in healthcare are educated at KI. A close relationship with the health care providers is important for creating groundbreaking top quality education and research. Karolinska Institutet is also a state university, which entitles you to several benefits through our collective agreement.
