Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Join us at Karolinska Institutet / Biomedicum and decipher how human adaption to high altitude hypoxia shapes gene regulatory circuits and impact physiology and human health - with world-class facilities, passionate biomedical scientists, a buzzing capital, and scenic nature at your doorstep

Your mission

In the research group led by Bjørt K. Kragesteen, we are particularly interested in using the lens of human evolution to link DNA variation to phenotypes to uncover fundamental molecular and gene regulatory processes that govern oxygen homeostasis. As a new lab, we are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic lab manager/researcher to join the team that enjoys working closely with colleagues to make fundamental discoveries in biomedical research.

As an interdisciplinary lab, we integrate human evolutionary genomic studies with mice, human tissues, and human organoid models and apply genomic editing and single cell/spatial multiomics to decipher regulation of hypoxia cell states, with the aim to better understand present day health disparities and intervention of medical hypoxia related conditions.

The responsibilities of the Lab manager/Researcher include:

  • Lab management tasks: procurement and orders, lab organisation, and assist with grant applications and ethical proposals
  • Cell culture expert: maintain hiPSC lines and differentiate into kidney and lung organoids, genome editing of hiPSCs, molecular assays, and imaging
  • Experimental support to the project of students and postdoctoral researchers in the lab

Your profile

We welcome applications from candidates with a background in Molecular Biology or other related fields. The successful candidate is a motivated, responsible scientist with good communication and organizational skills who enjoys working with people and take pride in delivering work of good quality. Originality, efficiency, data-driven analyses, and reproducible research are central concepts to us, and thus expertise in developing creative assays and/or unbiased workflows are considered merits.

The work requires:

  • Expertise in experimental work and cell culture and molecular biology techniques
  • Expertise with hiPSCs and organoids
  • Experience with microscopy and analysis
  • Proficiency in Swedish and English and excellent communication skills

The applicant must be able to integrate well into the international and multidisciplinary environment. Personal suitability is therefore of great importance.

What do we offer?

A creative and inspiring environment with wide-ranging expertise and interests both within the Medical systems bioengineering unit, MBB, and Biomedicum. Karolinska Institutet is one of the world's leading medical universities and along with the neighbouring SciLifeLab is a national hub for molecular biosciences and a one-stop resource of unique technologies and cutting-edge facilities. You get to meet researchers working with a wide range of specialisms and methods, giving you ample opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience with the various scientific fields within medicine and health. A close relationship with the health care providers across the street in Bioclinicum is important for creating ground-breaking top-quality education and research. Karolinska Institutet is also a state university, which entitles you to several benefits through our collective agreement.
