Research in the Gerlach lab is directed at understanding basic cellular and molecular principles governing CD8 T cell responses to acute infections and cancer. Using a combination of several state-of-the-art single-cell technologies we strive to understand mechanisms underlying the generation, maintenance and consequences of the heterogeneity within the T cell immune response. Our long-term goal is that this knowledge will contribute to improved vaccines and immunotherapies. The Gerlach lab is now recruiting a research assistant for a fixed-term employment.
We are recruiting a research assistant who is dedicated to contributing to our research group’s scientific progress and environment. Your duties will be a combination of lab manager-like (administrative, organizational) and wet-lab research tasks. You will be responsible for mouse colony management and typing by flow cytometry and PCR, management of extra tasks in coordination with animal facility (e.g room moves, rederivation, shipments), placing and coordinating orders (e.g. reagents, consumables), administrative tasks (e.g. bookings, lab calendar) and active work with lab safety. You will contribute to research projects withing our group by working together with and assisting other group members with experimental tasks, as well as carrying out experiments independently. Laboratory techniques include PCR, qPCR, cell line propagation, flow cytometry, work with BSL2 pathogens, lymphocyte isolation from murine tissues, basic injection techniques, and potentially more. Furthermore, you will play a central role in organizing of group activities and common group duties.
We are looking for a dedicated and talented person with a high motivation to work within the Gerlach lab. A strong motivation to contribute to other lab members’ projects and the common good of the research group is important. The successful candidate should have experience with at least some of the laboratory techniques mentioned above – the more the better, and needs to be willing to work with mice. The position requires maintenance of accurate and detailed experimental records. The applicant should be scientifically curious, and have highly developed social skills, a personality that fits in the group, and an internal drive to promote a collaborative atmosphere within the group.
