The Medical Inflammation Research (MIR) Group at the Division of Immunology, Karolinska Institute, aims to improve human health by identifying etiology and regulatory pathways of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and in this context developing new unique diagnostic tests for RA.

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to lead and coordinate projects with a focus on development of antibody based diagnostic tests of rheumatoid arthritis. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with leading experts, access cutting-edge resources, and contribute to transformative discoveries that can shape the future of autoimmune disease treatment.

Your mission

We are interested in identifying etiology and regulatory pathways involved in the development of autoimmune disease, in particular rheumatoid arthritis, and to develop preventive therapeutics based on our basic research findings. As a postdoctoral fellow, you are expected to take a leading role in the entire research process, from research planning and project administration, data processing and analysis, to interpretation and dissemination of research findings. You will be working on producing and validation test reagents, performing cellular and serologic assays, handling sera from human cohorts and also other research oriented experiments including some animal work. You are also expected to participate in the supervision of master students and teaching. 

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor, a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last four years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

Specific requirements for the position:

  • Doctoral degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Immunology, Medicine or a related field.
  • Preferably an MD exam
  • Research experience in mouse handling, mouse breeding and genotyping, surgical procedures, as well as experience with laboratory cellular biology work
  • Strong background in protein biochemistry, mainly recombinant protein expression, purification, and characterization, biostatistical analysis
  • Prior proficiency with Äkta systems, flow cytometry, antibody based immune assays will be considered valuable.
  • Proficient knowledge of English
