This temporary position in Endocrine Surgery will be placed in the Endocrine Surgery research group of Jan Zedenius, which conducts research about endocrine tumors and cancer. The research group consists of several independent researchers, several PhD students, an associate university lecturer, and one research nurse. We have close connection to and cooperation with groups in Medical Genetics and Endocrine Pathology. 

Your mission

We are looking for an endocrine surgeon that can strengthen our research group and perform the following:

  • Project planning, study design and statistical analysis
  • Introduce novel intra-operative techniques in endocrine surgery, including fluorescent techniques
  • Collaborate with both internal and external researchers, including set-up of organoids and connected techniques emanating from endocrine tumors
  • Preparation and submission of manuscripts and grant applications
  • Administrative tasks

We are looking for an excellent team player with interpersonal skills, organized, efficient, and flexible in dealing with unpredictability and changes. The applicant will need to both feel comfortable with working in teams and demonstrate good interpersonal skills. You will have access to a writing room and all other facilities necessary for the planned research. Jan Zedenius will be PI, but cooperation with other researchers will be stimulated. Emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Senior Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated good level of research expertise with significant scientific production. The applicant must also have demonstrated a good scientific independence to which their own contribution has been significant and a research plan of high quality with clear potential for the future.

Assessment criteria

  • For employment as Senior Research Specialist at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements and assessment criteria stated in the Rules regarding other positions than teaching positions are applied in relation to the established profile of employment. It is particularly meritorious that the applicant is a specialist in endocrine surgery.
  • Experience in supervising doctoral students
  • Excellence in written and verbal communication using English

  •  Experience from working with endocrine tumors
  •  Knowledge of fluorescent techniques, including intraoperative measurements
  •  Experience from working with organoids
  •  Experience in supervising doctoral students
  •  Documented research independence (such as docentur or equivalent)

  • Capability to receive grants in competition
  • Experience with collaborative projects
  • Experience in teaching endocrine surgery
  • Excellence in written and verbal communication using English
