Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Lallemend lab is looking for an ambitious postdoc with solid single-cell biology skills to join our highly accomplished team of neurobiologists. We offer a stimulating environment in a rapidly moving research frontier.

Division

The Lallemend lab studies the genetic and molecular aspects of the development, identity, function, and plasticity of the peripheral sensory system. In this specific project, the postdoc will explore the transcriptional and epigenetic landscape of the inner ear at single cell level, during early development and with aging, to identify and quantify the genetic pathways regulating the emergence and senescence of whole organs. The studies are both basic and translational as they involve general understanding of fundamental biological mechanisms and the identification of new molecular targets to counter aging or rejuvenate the organs’ function.

Duties

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoc with a strong bioinformatics background with great interest in using single cell tools to better understand the complexity of cell types in various conditions, their potential interactions, and biological impacts in a whole organ. The postdoc candidate's main tasks will be establishing pipelines for analyzing gene expression data from single-cell RNA-sequencing (Smartseq3xpress and 10X), spatial transcriptomics, and other platforms including chromatin accessibility sequencing (ATAC-seq and multi-omics). The postdoc candidate will conduct the analysis of cell-type specific aging clock, GRNs, loss of gene-to-gene transcriptional coordination and transcriptome imbalance etc. to provide significant advances in the genetic regulation of the emergence and the senescence of complex organs in mammals.

The projects involve mouse and human tissue handling, advanced imaging analysis, single cell RNA-sequencing and epigenetics, physiological recording, and behavioral measurements. As this is a team effort, excellent communication skills are essential, as well as proven ability to work in multidisciplinary teams. It is expected that the postdoc also participates in other ongoing projects, and help supervising students and other researchers if necessary.

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Location: Solna

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process

An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  • A complete list of publications
  • A summary of current work (no more than one page)

The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.

The candidate can also send in parallel a letter of intent with associated CV directly to francois.lallemend@ki.se
