The Lipid Laboratory at the Department of Medicine (H7), Karolinska Institutet focuses on studies of human adipose tissue and its pathophysiological role in promoting metabolic complications such as insulin resistance, dyslipidemia and hypertension. The laboratory is composed of about 15 scientists and support staff. We have a long track record in the field of translational medicine and several international collaborations resulting in important contributions to the research field. Our work is based on examinations in large, carefully phenotyped prospective clinical cohorts and on well-established in vitro cell models using a number of standard and state-of-art methodologies (e.g. single cell RNA sequencing, multicolor flow cytometry, high throughput screens and cell phenotype analysis) as well as in-house developed techniques.
We are now establishing studies on the immunometabolic milieu of human
adipose tissue and its role in adipocyte differentiation, adipose tissue morphology and the development of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. A postdoctoral position is now open for a highly motivated scientist with a strong background in
molecular and cell biology and immunology.
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctoral researcher is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
To qualify, the applicant must hold a PhD in the field of molecular biology, biomedicine or immunology. The applicant, ideally applying for his/her first or second postdoctoral position, should have experience from work in a translational research environment and excellent skills in standard molecular biology techniques as well as cell culture work including primary cell systems. Experience in handling analyses of large data sets, e.g. arrays and/or metabolomics data, experience in advanced multi-colour flow cytometry is required as well as knowledge of methods to study transcriptional regulation. Practical experience from in vitro assays measuring metabolic function of fat cell is also advantageous. A background in metabolism and/or immunology is highly meritorious. As our research is performed with a translational perspective, our work implies handling of human samples and close collaboration with clinicians. We are looking for curious and ambitious persons that are eager to learn and that have the
capacity to collaborate in teams.
