Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Signal Transduction Laboratory, Rolf Luft Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology, Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery, Karolinska Institutet.

Description of the subject area

One of our ongoing, long-term projects is the understanding of the beta-cell signalling machinery in vivo. It aims to gain in depth understanding of beta-cell function in vivo and possible changes in the signalling cascade under diabetic conditions. Most of the work is carried out using in vivo microscopy, which is complimented with animal physiology experiments and immunohistochemistry

Your mission

The Rolf Luft Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology is now recruiting a Research Specialist who will work in close collaboration with the rest of the team mainly on the generation mechanistic knowledge on beta-cell function and survival and to develop innovative therapeutic approaches in the field of diabetes and allotransplantation. The successful applicant will join and enhance ongoing efforts in beta-cell research, focusing on the physiology and pathophysiology in primary rodent and human islets of Langerhans in vivo.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Bio/Chemical Engineering, Immunology, Biochemistry, or related major field the applicant must have demonstrated experience in oligonucleotide chemistry, including aptamers, small interfering RNA, small activating RNA, miRNA or related field with an expressed interest in drug delivery.

Additional requirements:

  • Basic understanding of immunology, with an expressed interest in immunomodulation strategies
  • Demonstrated experience with either human on mouse islet biology
  • A basic understanding of in vivo imaging techniques is desirable
  • Self-initiative and ability to work independently as well as part of a cross-functional team
  • Excellent English proficiency (written and verbal) and project coordination skills

Assessment criteria

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown
