Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Signal Transduction Laboratory, Rolf Luft Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology, Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery, Karolinska Institutet. This laboratory focus on signal transduction in the pancreatic beta-cell, where one general aim for the current project is to better understand the dynamics of progression from pre-diabetes to diabetes. The laboratory is connected with laboratories in USA, South Korea, Singapore and China. In recent years, the group has established the innovative and versatile platform based on islet transplantation into the anterior chamber of the eye and successfully pioneered its application in in vivo characterization of signal-transduction in islet cells and other cells.

Your mission

We are recruiting a post-doc for advanced in vivo and in vitro assessment of pancreatic islet function at single cell and subcellular level using techniques as epifluorescence and confocal microscopy in different diabetic mouse models. This will be combined with other techniques and involve collaboration with other researchers. The work involves advanced work with rodent models.

Your profile

We are looking for a passionate, highly motivated and experienced post-doc with special qualifications from the fields of cilia and immunofluorescence microscopy. A person is eligible to be appointed as postdoc if he or she has received a PhD, with a background in anatomy, cilium development, and microscopy. The post-doc should have strong skills in a range of experimental animal models to perform delicate surgical work in both mice and rats.

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as post-doc, the applicant must have demonstrated research and teaching competence at higher education level as well as management, development, and collaboration skills.
Applicants will be conducting studies to examine the vascularization of pancreatic islets following transplantation, contributing to the group’s internationally leading research. Applicants should have documented collaboration and leadership skills, as well as proven experience within biotechnology. Applicants must have experience with CRISPR/Cas9 models, confocal microscopy and ImageJ analysis software. Particular attention will be given to applicants who have specialized in the transcriptional control of ciliogenesis, have experience with tissue handling/dissection and a background in anatomy. Applicants will be expected to teach and demonstrate experience in supervising doctoral students and should hold relevant teaching qualifications where appropriate. Due to the international calibre of our research group, candidates with proven experience in multicultural research environments, demonstrated by doctoral training abroad and participation at international conferences, will be considered strong contenders. Consequently, excellent communication skills in English is a requirement, with strong preference given to candidates that also possess fluency in Swedish.
After an overall evaluation of the candidates' expertise and merits, Karolinska Institutet will assess which candidates have the best potential to contribute to the positive development of the activities at KI.

Bases of assessment

The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: Technical expertise, research expertise,
Educational skills, development and cooperation expertise.
