Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research to improve human health?

A postdoctoral position within a collaborative project for understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying the development of neuropathic pain is available in the laboratory of Saida Hadjab. The research spans from delineating the (epi)genetic and cell state changes associated with pain disorders to ultimately be able to find new targets for treatment and reshape healthy cell state from pain disorders.

Division

The Hadjab laboratory studies the development, and homeostasis of the somatosensory neurons (Nat Comm 2019, Nat Comm 2020, Cell Rep 2019, Development 2019, etc) and it is located in a collaborative division in the new building BIOMEDICUM at Karolinska Institutet. The postdoc will continue the successful line of investigations based on single-cell RNA sequencing to study pain-sensing neurons plasticity in health and disease.

Your mission

You will combine behavior, histology, dissection, cutting-edge molecular biology, next-generation sequencing, and microscopy techniques, while working in synergy with experts in computational methods approaches.

Your profile

We are looking for a creative scientist, driven to answer biological questions from new angles. Applicants must hold a PhD equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree in the field of neuroscience. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

Applicants should have a strong background in behavioral approaches and experimental cellular/molecular preferentially documented with several research publications. The applicants must be familiar with animal handling and testing, dissection, in vivo characterization, maintain animal colonies and should have a publication track-record with first authorship. Experience with R software and scRNAseq data analysis is considered a plus, but not mandatory.

Applicants should also be self-motivated with good communication skills. It is expected that the postdoc supervises students if necessary, as well as contribute to common lab duties. Fluency in English is a requirement.

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four-year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Location: Biomedicum, Solna (Stockholm)

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process

An application must contain the following documents in English:

  • A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defense, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  • A complete list of publications
  • A summary of current work (no more than one page)
  • Reference letters will be requested in due time

The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.
